PBBM NAMES RETIRED JUSTICE ANDRES REYES NAMED CHAIR OF ICI

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. confirmed on Monday morning, September 15, that retired Supreme Court Justice Andres Reyes Jr. has been appointed as the third member and Chairperson of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI).

Marcos cited Reyes’ judicial track record as the main reason for entrusting him with the commission’s leadership.

“He has a very, very good record of honesty and fairness and a good record of being able to find justice for those who have been victimized,” the President said.

Marcos assured the public that Malacañang will not interfere with the commission’s work.

“Hindi kami mangingialam sa trabaho nila,” he said, adding that the commission will meet daily to fast-track its proceedings.

Established under Executive Order No. 94, the ICI was formed to investigate anomalous flood control projects implemented under the administrations of former Presidents Noynoy Aquino, Rodrigo Duterte, and the current Marcos administration.

Justice Reyes will serve alongside former Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Rogelio “Babes” Singson, SGV & Co. executive Rossana Fajardo, and Baguio City Mayor Benjie Magalong, who will act as the commission’s special adviser.

Reyes previously served as a trial judge from 1987 to 1999, was appointed Associate Justice of the Court of Appeals (CA), became its Presiding Judge in 2010, and was appointed as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court in 2017 until his retirement in 2020.
