“I KNOW MY LIMITS”: PASIG CITY MAYOR VICO SOTTO RULES OUT 2028 RUN

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto says he is no longer entertaining the idea of running for a “higher position” in the 2028 elections.

In an exclusive interview with veteran journalist Jessica Soho, Sotto said he has no political ambitions for 2028, stressing that his focus is on fulfilling his role as an ordinary citizen of the Philippines.

“Bigger things doesn’t always necessarily mean having to run in the elections, so I just want to do my part, of course I need to think of myself also, oh sige takbo ako sa 2028 pero burnt out naman ako, hindi rin naman madali yung ginagawa araw-araw, edi wala din, disservice din sa tao ‘yun,” Sotto said.

The young mayor emphasized that he knows his own limits as a politician, which is why he has no plans of seeking higher office.

This comes as lawmakers in Congress and the Senate filed measures to lower the minimum age requirement for those seeking the presidency, vice presidency, and Senate seats starting in the 2028 elections.

Political analysts have pointed out that Sotto stands to benefit the most from such reforms, with the latest survey from research firm Tangere showing that he is just 1% behind Vice President Sara Duterte, who remains the frontrunner for the presidency in 2028.
