On Thursday, September 24, former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bulacan 1st District Engineer Henry Alcantara, former Assistant Engineer Brice Hernandez, and DPWH Engineer Jaypee Mendoza appeared at the Department of Justice (DOJ).
According to Justice Secretary Boying Remulla, Alcantara, Hernandez, Mendoza, and contractor couple Sarah and Curlee Discaya of St. Gerrard Construction Company are now being considered “protected witnesses” while the DOJ continues its evaluation under the Witness Protection Program (WPP).
“Kasama yan sa evaluation pero we consider them already as protected witnesses eh, yun nga, yung tatlong tiga-DPWH so far na nagsasalita sa amin are considered protected witnesses and we had just wrote a letter to the Senate President about that status,” said Remulla.
Remulla clarified that the DOJ is exercising caution in admitting individuals into the state witness program.
He added that they will coordinate with the Senate regarding the custody of individuals cited in contempt by the Senate Committee on Accountability, Public Officers and Investigations, or the Blue Ribbon Committee.
