The Philippine National Police (PNP) has formalized its partnership with the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) and the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) to boost the campaign for transparency and accountability in government infrastructure projects.
Acting PNP chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. represented the police force during the September 23 signing held at the Department of Energy (DOE) Energy Center in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. The ICI, created by the President, is tasked to investigate anomalies in flood control projects across the country.
Nartatez said the PNP will form a top-level task group to support ICI’s work, from law enforcement and case buildup to providing security for witnesses and investigators.
“The PNP’s primary role is to provide investigative and law enforcement support to ICI and its partner institutions… We will also ensure that protective services are extended to witnesses, resource persons, and investigators when necessary,” he said.
He also stressed that the PNP’s involvement goes beyond its traditional duties, pointing out that active participation in anti-corruption efforts is key to restoring public confidence.
“Public trust is built when citizens see that government agencies are serious about accountability… Our involvement demonstrates that law enforcement stands firmly on the side of transparency and good governance,” Nartatez added.
The PNP’s move follows the directive of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and the guidance of Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla to ensure that infrastructure programs meant to safeguard communities are implemented with integrity and efficiency.
