Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman on Monday assured that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s directive to realign ₱255.55 billion originally allocated for flood control projects in 2026 will not derail the country’s infrastructure program.
According to Pangandaman, the move is part of a strategic effort to prioritize urgent government programs without sacrificing critical infrastructure.
“What’s important is that we still get to implement key projects like school buildings, hospitals, and infrastructure that supports our agriculture sector,” Pangandaman said in a statement.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) earlier slashed its proposed 2026 budget from more than ₱881 billion to ₱625.78 billion after removing duplicate entries and already completed projects worth ₱255.53 billion.
Pangandaman added that all existing contracts and obligations will still be honored despite the realignment.
