Vice President Sara Duterte expressed hope that if the International Criminal Court (ICC) grants interim release to her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, he would be allowed to return to Davao City—the Duterte family’s political stronghold.
The Vice President said her father requires “24/7” care due to his health condition and advanced age.
“Kung ako, Davao City talaga. Davao City, Philippines. Kahit house arrest ‘yan doon, kahit na gusto ng ICC na ilibing sa ilalim ng bunker ‘yan na ‘yung house arrest niya, walang problema sa amin, gagawin namin ‘yan,” Duterte said.
She added: “In fact, I think mas makabuti pa nga kung ibigay na lang ‘yang interim release na ‘yan because we can encourage him to cooperate sa mangyayari na trial kung meron o mangyayari na hearings kung meron man… You know, mahalaga sa amin ‘yung word of honor namin sa pamilya.”
Over the weekend, the Vice President lashed out at the ICC after reports emerged that former President Duterte was found “unconscious” inside his detention cell.
