Conflicting statements have emerged among allies of former President Rodrigo Duterte regarding his current health condition while under detention at the Scheveningen Prison in The Hague, Netherlands.
In a privilege speech at the Senate, Senator Robin Padilla claimed that the former President is suffering from a serious illness.
“Meron na pong matinding sakit si Tatay Digong,” Padilla said, describing himself as a staunch supporter of the Duterte family. He further alleged that Duterte is showing “early signs of dementia.”
However, this contradicts earlier statements from the Duterte family. The former President’s children had assured the public that their father remains in stable condition, although Vice President Sara Duterte confirmed over the weekend that her father had a minor accident in detention but is now recovering.
Padilla also expressed concern over reports that former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, one of Duterte’s fiercest critics, is currently in The Hague.
“Kami po ay nangangamba, kasi meron pong mga usap-usapan na si Antonio Trillanes ay nagpunta daw po sa The Hague,” Padilla remarked.
The former President is facing three counts of murder before the International Criminal Court (ICC) in connection with the bloody war on drugs during his administration.
