PALACE RESPECTS SUPREME COURT RULING ON BANGSAMORO POLLS POSTPONEMENT

The Office of the President has expressed respect for the Supreme Court’s decision to postpone the first-ever Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections.

In a ruling issued on September 30, the Supreme Court declared unconstitutional the redistricting laws passed by the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA). Because of this, the scheduled polls on October 13 will no longer push through.

“The Office of the President recognizes that this ruling is a pivotal step in ensuring that the first Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections will be conducted on the firmest constitutional and legal foundations,” the statement read.

Malacañang stressed its commitment to safeguard the peace process, strengthen democratic institutions, and uphold the political rights of the people in the region.

“The administration will extend its full support to all constitutionally mandated institutions in order to ensure that the democratic aspirations of the Bangsamoro people are realized within the framework of the Constitution and the Bangsamoro Organic Law,” it added.

The Marcos administration also assured its full support for institutions mandated under the Constitution to ensure that the democratic aspirations of the Bangsamoro people are fulfilled in line with the Constitution and the Bangsamoro Organic Law.

The Palace emphasized that it remains firm in its pledge to protect the peace process, fortify democratic institutions, and defend the political rights of all citizens in the region.
