MALACAÑANG IMPLEMENTS SHAKE-UP IN TRANSPORT AGENCIES

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has implemented a leadership reshuffle among several agencies under the Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Friday, October 10.

In a press briefing, Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez announced the leadership changes following the directive issued by Malacañang.

Former Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) chairman Teofilo Guadiz III has been appointed as the new head of the Office of Transport Cooperatives (OTC). Replacing him at the LTFRB is Land Transportation Office (LTO) Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II.

Meanwhile, Special Envoy on Transnational Crime Markus Lacanilao has been designated to take over Mendoza’s post as LTO chief. Lacanilao previously served as a special envoy under the Office of the President (OP) and was among those involved in facilitating the turnover of former President Rodrigo Duterte to the International Criminal Court.

When asked about the reason behind the reshuffle, Lopez clarified that the move was entirely at the discretion of the Palace.

“It doesn’t necessarily require an explanation. As we always say, all of us appointed officials work at the pleasure of the President,” Lopez said.
