BLUE RIBBON PANEL TO DECIDE BETWEEN TULFO AND CAYETANO AS NEW CHAIR

The Senate Committee on Accountability of Public Officers and Investigations, more commonly known as the Blue Ribbon Committee, is set to deliberate on who will be its permanent chair—Senator Erwin Tulfo or Senator Pia Cayetano.

Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III confirmed that the committee will hold a meeting in the coming days once Senator Tulfo returns to the country after attending the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

At present, Tulfo serves as the acting chair of the Blue Ribbon Committee, while Cayetano earlier expressed her openness to being formally appointed to the position.

“We will have to ask the committee to discuss that. It’s better if I don’t decide on it alone,” Sotto said.

According to him, the upcoming meeting will focus solely on selecting the permanent chair before the committee proceeds with scheduling hearings and investigations.

Tulfo previously said he would continue to perform his duties as acting chair until an official appointment is made.

It can be recalled that Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” Lacson resigned as Blue Ribbon chair following criticisms from some colleagues over how he handled the committee’s proceedings.
