ERICE URGES MARCOS TO CALL SPECIAL SESSION TO STRENGTHEN ICI’S MANDATE

Caloocan City 2nd District Representative Egay Erice has urged President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to call for a special session of Congress to pass a law granting greater authority to the Independent Commission on Infrastructure (ICI), which is currently investigating alleged irregularities in government projects.

Erice’s call came after contractor couple Curlee and Sarah Discaya reportedly refused to further cooperate with the ICI’s ongoing probe.

According to Erice, the commission was created merely through an executive order, which he said is insufficient to compel private individuals or institutions to participate in the investigation.

He warned that without legislative backing, the ICI’s efforts may be rendered ineffective.

“Kung wala umanong maipapasang batas para mabigyan ng sapat na kapangyarihan ang ICI ay wala ring mangyayari sa nasabing imbestigasyon,” Erice stated.

The lawmaker added that a statutory foundation would make the ICI truly independent and credible — unlike the current setup, where it can easily be dissolved or disrupted, possibly jeopardizing vital evidence.

Erice further emphasized that establishing the ICI through legislation would enhance public trust and ensure a more transparent and credible investigation process.
