AQUINO THANKS DTI FOR SUSPENDING MANDATORY TRUSTMARK RULE FOR ONLINE BUSINESSES

Senator Bam Aquino expressed gratitude to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) for its decision to suspend the implementation of the Mandatory Trustmark requirement for online businesses.

“Nagpapasalamat tayo sa DTI sa kanilang pasya na pansamantalang ipagpaliban muna ang pagpapatupad ng mandatory Trustmark requirement para sa ating online micro, small, and medium enterprises,” Aquino said. “Malaking tulong at gaan ang desisyong ito para mabawasan ang pasanin ng ating online sellers,” he added.

The senator made the statement following DTI’s announcement that the Trustmark requirement will remain voluntary until the end of the year, pending a final decision on its full implementation.

Aquino earlier urged DTI to reassess and review the mandatory rollout of the Trustmark system, arguing that it could burden micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) already struggling to recover post-pandemic.

The Trustmark serves as a digital badge certifying that an online business complies with government standards on trust, safety, and fair e-commerce practices.

In line with Consumer Welfare Month, Aquino also called on DTI to intensify its campaign against online scams, particularly as the holiday shopping season approaches.

“Nananawagan tayo sa DTI na paigtingin pa ang kampanya laban sa mga scam sa online selling platforms, na inaasahan nating tataas ngayong panahon ng kapaskuhan,” he said.

Aquino likewise reminded consumers to remain cautious and ensure the legitimacy of sellers before making online purchases.

Recognized as a strong advocate for MSMEs and consumer rights, Aquino authored and sponsored the Go Negosyo Act (Republic Act 10644) during his term as chair of the Senate Committee on Trade, Commerce, and Entrepreneurship. The law aims to expand market access, streamline business registration, and provide training and financial assistance to empower small entrepreneurs across the country.
