The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has gone on full alert and implemented precautionary measures to minimize the possible impact of Tropical Storm Ramil on its transmission operations and facilities.
“Power system operator and transmission service provider NGCP has implemented the necessary preparations and precautions to minimize the impact of Tropical Storm Ramil on transmission operations and facilities,” the company said in a statement.
According to NGCP, preparations include ensuring the reliability of communications equipment, as well as the availability of materials and supplies that may be needed to repair damaged transmission infrastructure.
Line crews have already been pre-deployed to strategic areas to facilitate immediate restoration work once weather conditions permit.
“Preparations include ensuring the reliability of communications equipment, availability of hardware materials and supplies necessary for the repair of damage to facilities as well as the positioning of the line crews in strategic areas to facilitate immediate restoration work,” NGCP added.
The power transmission operator emphasized that it remains fully prepared to maintain grid stability and uninterrupted power transmission as much as possible, especially in areas expected to be affected by the storm’s path.
Tropical Storm Ramil is forecast to cross Central and Southern Luzon, including Metro Manila, by Sunday, October 19, bringing heavy rains and strong winds that could disrupt power and communication lines.
