EX-PNP CHIEF TORRE JOKES ABOUT POSSIBLE 2028 VP RUN: “BAKA MA-IMPEACH AGAD AKO”

Former Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Nicolas Torre III has addressed circulating talks about his possible run for Vice President in the 2028 national elections—but he took it with humor rather than confirmation.

In a recent television interview, Torre playfully dismissed the idea of replacing Vice President Sara Duterte, saying his brief 85-day stint as PNP chief might be a hint that he’s not cut out for such a position.

“It’s an honor, thank you very much for considering me. Pero parang hindi ko kakayanin dahil, chief PNP nga lang, 85 days lang ako tanggal agad eh. So baka naman ‘pag nag-VP ako, eh ‘di na-impeach kaagad ako 84 days lang o 83 days lang,” Torre quipped.

The former police chief admitted he’s unsure if he’s ready to hold another high-ranking government post anytime soon.

“I’m not very sure if I’m really ready to again hold sensitive position,” he said.

He also poked fun at his relief from office, saying it brought him a mix of irony and relief.

“Hindi ako sanay sa walang ginagawa pero it’s really a big relief, nang ma-relieve ay na-relief,” Torre joked.

It will be recalled that on August 26, Torre was officially relieved from his post following a memorandum issued by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.
