Two people were reported dead while nearly 18,500 residents were forced to evacuate following heavy rains brought by Tropical Storm Ramil in the provinces of Capiz and Iloilo.
According to a report from the Office of Civil Defense–Region 6 (OCD-6), both fatalities were residents of Capiz. The Capiz Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) identified the victims as Rizaldo Base Balgos of Roxas City and Mae Urdelas of Ivisan town.
Authorities said more than 9,700 residents in Capiz and over 8,700 in Iloilo were affected by flooding and have been displaced from their homes.
While flooding is common in some parts of Capiz such as Sigma, residents were caught off guard by the sudden rise of floodwaters in Roxas City, which submerged large portions of the provincial capital and caused severe disruption to communities.
In Iloilo, heavy flooding was also reported in the northern towns of Estancia, Balasan, Batad, and Barotac Viejo, although water levels have since begun to recede in most affected areas.
Government agencies continue to coordinate with local government units (LGUs) in Capiz and northern Iloilo to assist in ongoing relief and recovery operations for displaced residents.
