The Philippine Army has confirmed that Cavite 4th District Representative Kiko Barzaga has been officially delisted as a military reservist, effective September 21—the same day large-scale protests were held against alleged irregularities in government flood control projects.
According to the Army, Barzaga’s removal stemmed from “grave offenses” that violated the rules and regulations of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
“[Barzaga] was delisted over the release of his statements on social media, as he was insinuating sedition with an attached photo of him in military uniform. Such statements endanger the Armed Forces’ position as a non-partisan organization,” the Philippine Army said in an official statement.
The Army further emphasized its commitment to maintaining institutional integrity: “We do not condone violations of military regulations, regardless of status or position, as part of our duty to preserve the professionalism and credibility of the organization.”
Barzaga, known for being one of the most vocal critics of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and his cousin, former House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, has yet to issue a formal response regarding the Army’s decision.
