MARCOS VOWS MORE SHIPS AND EQUIPMENT TO BOOST PCG OPERATIONS IN WPS

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is set to receive more vessels and advanced maritime equipment, following President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s assurance of continuous government support for the agency’s operations in the West Philippine Sea (WPS).

Speaking at the 124th PCG Anniversary Celebration held at Pier 15, South Harbor, Port Area, Manila, President Marcos reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthen the country’s maritime defense capabilities.

He said the government will procure additional ships, aircraft, and communication systems to improve the Coast Guard’s surveillance operations and ensure the safety and security of Filipino fishermen in contested waters.

“I assure you that this government is solidly behind you. We will keep investing in new vessels, in aircraft, command posts and communication systems,” the President declared.

Marcos also emphasized that the administration will prioritize the upgrading of training facilities and logistics support to enhance the capabilities of PCG personnel and ensure they are well-equipped to carry out their duties.

The President’s remarks underscored the government’s determination to maintain a strong maritime presence in the WPS, amid ongoing tensions and foreign incursions in the region.
