SINGSON DIRECTLY BLAMES MARCOS FOR ALLEGED WIDESPREAD CORRUPTION

Former Ilocos Sur Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson has openly pointed to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. as being accountable for the alleged corruption plaguing various government projects across the country.

In a statement released on his Facebook page on Monday, October 27, Singson claimed that every major government initiative involving flood control, rehabilitation, and large-scale infrastructure reportedly goes through the President’s office.

“Every major flood project, every rehabilitation program, every large-scale public works, all of it passes through his desk,” said Chavit.

“He reviews every plan and approves every peso,” he added.

Singson went on to question the President’s moral stance, saying it was hypocritical for Marcos to lecture corrupt officials when he himself should be held accountable.

“So tell me, how can anyone say ‘I don’t know’? How can he say ‘You should be ashamed of yourselves’? Perhaps it is you. You should be ashamed of yourself Mr. President,” he remarked.

According to Singson, the President bears the greatest responsibility for the billions of pesos allegedly lost to anomalous flood-control projects.

“Filipino’s hard earned pesos have disappeared into flood-control projects like ghosts. Who carries the ultimate responsibility?” he asked.

“It is not the officials, not the engineers, not the contractors, it is the President who holds the power and the trust of the nation,” he emphasized.

Singson further criticized Marcos’s leadership, calling him a “weak leader” for his supposed failure to curb corruption within his administration.

“Corruption has been allowed to flood every agency of his government. It is a failure of leadership at the very top. What our President is doing, is shifting the blame to others to save himself,” Singson said.

“That ladies and gentlemen is called a weak leader,” he added.

It may be recalled that Singson himself is facing a corruption-related complaint filed by a group of farmers from Narvacan, Ilocos Sur, where he served as mayor from 2019 to 2022.
