CAAP PLACES AIRPORTS ON HEIGHTENED ALERT AS TYPHOON TINO NEARS

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has raised a heightened alert status across its area centers and airports on Monday, November 3, as Typhoon Tino continues to move closer to the country.

CAAP Director General Retired Lt. Gen. Raul Del Rosario directed all Area Center Managers and Airport Managers in regions likely to be affected by the typhoon to ensure full preparedness of airport facilities, equipment, and personnel ahead of the storm’s landfall.

Under the directive, airports have been ordered to activate passenger assistance measures, which include providing temporary shelter, food, and essential supplies to stranded travelers.

Malasakit Help Desks have also been deployed in major airports to offer immediate assistance to affected passengers.

“CAAP is closely monitoring Typhoon Tino’s movement and potential impact on aviation operations. We are ensuring that all necessary precautions are in place to safeguard lives and maintain operational readiness across all airports,” said Lt. Gen. Del Rosario.

The agency is in close coordination with airline operators and relevant authorities to ensure safe air travel while continuously monitoring weather developments.

According to PAGASA’s 5 p.m. weather bulletin, Typhoon Tino was last spotted 170 kilometers east-southeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, carrying maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h and gusts of up to 160 km/h, moving westward at 20 km/h.

CAAP reiterated that all airports under its jurisdiction remain on full alert, with contingency measures ready for rapid deployment should weather conditions worsen.
