MARCOS ORDERS SWIFT, COORDINATED RESPONSE FOR TYPHOON TINO RECOVERY

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has directed all government agencies to mount an all-hands, all-systems-go response to accelerate relief and recovery operations for communities hit by Typhoon Tino, which has affected more than 340,000 people across seven regions.

“Patuloy nating binabantayan ang epekto ng Bagyong Tino na nakaapekto sa mahigit 340,000 katao sa 1,397 barangay,” Marcos said in a message delivered by Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro during a Malacañang briefing.

According to the President, preemptive evacuations significantly minimized casualties, with over 175,000 residents currently housed in evacuation centers across Mimaropa, Bicol, Western and Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and the Negros Island Region.

The government has mobilized multiple agencies to speed up recovery efforts: the DSWD has prepositioned food packs and aid; the DOE and NEA are restoring electricity; and the DPWH and MMDA have deployed clearing teams to reopen roads and restore access to isolated areas.

Marcos also sent Cabinet members to the most affected provinces to personally assess the damage and ensure the quick restoration of vital services such as water, power, and communication.

“Tutungo rin ang ilang miyembro ng Gabinete sa mga pinakaapektadong probinsiya upang personal na alamin ang kalagayan at tiyaking naibabalik agad ang mga pangunahing serbisyo,” he said.

He reminded the public to remain cautious as recovery efforts continue.

“Tinitiyak ng pamahalaan ang patuloy na pagkilos upang mapabilis ang pagbangon ng ating mga kababayan. Manatiling alerto at makinig sa abiso ng inyong mga lokal na opisyal,” Marcos added.

PAGASA reported that Typhoon Tino slightly weakened while crossing the Negros Island Region but continued to bring strong winds, heavy rains, and coastal flooding. The weather bureau also warned that the storm could re-intensify once it moves over the West Philippine Sea.
