AKBAYAN URGES OMBUDSMAN TO RELEASE SALNs OF MARCOS, DUTERTE, AND TOP OFFICIALS

The Akbayan Citizens’ Action Party, led by Senate Deputy Majority Leader Risa Hontiveros, along with youth and civil society groups, has formally asked the Office of the Ombudsman to make public the Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALNs) of the country’s highest officials before the opening of public requests on November 15.

The appeal follows the issuance of Memorandum Circular No. 3, series of 2025, dated October 31, which will take effect 15 days after publication as required under the Civil Code.

In their letter, Akbayan urged the release of the SALNs of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., Vice President Sara Duterte, former Ombudsman Samuel Martires, and top officials from the Commission on Audit (COA), Commission on Elections (COMELEC), and Civil Service Commission (CSC).

“Our request is a test of this government’s seriousness in addressing the massive corruption scandal. We will not accept half-measures,” said Akbayan President Rafaela David.

“The Ombudsman must heed the public’s demand for transparency and immediately release the SALNs of the country’s top officials. The greater the power, the greater the demand for transparency and accountability,” she added.

The move comes after the Ombudsman lifted restrictions on public access to the SALNs of government officials on October 14, a decision welcomed by transparency advocates.
