The legal team of former President Rodrigo Duterte has submitted a new set of evidence to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in connection with the case accusing him of crimes against humanity over his administration’s deadly war on drugs.
In a document dated November 5, Duterte’s lawyers turned over 13 pieces of evidence to the Office of the Prosecutor and the Office of Public Counsel for Victims (OPCV).
The materials were filed as “confidential ex parte,” meaning access is limited to the defense, prosecution, and representatives of the victims.
This marks the second batch of evidence submitted by the former president’s camp. The first submission, made in September, included 29 items.
Duterte, now 80 years old, is being investigated for crimes against humanity in relation to his anti-narcotics campaign both as Davao City Mayor and President, which reportedly resulted in thousands of deaths.
According to government data, the ICC prosecutor has cited 49 incidents of murder and attempted murder as part of the probe into the bloody drug war that claimed around 6,000 lives.
