Las Piñas City Lone District Representative Mark Anthony Santos has expressed full support for the Office of the Ombudsman’s special task force investigating alleged irregularities in flood control projects in Southern Metro Manila.
Santos said he is ready to submit documents, reports, and other relevant records to assist in the probe, particularly on the Zapote River Drive and other flood mitigation structures in Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, and Bacoor, Cavite.
The Ombudsman’s investigation, initiated by Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla, seeks to determine whether public funds were misused or if the projects may have indirectly benefited properties linked to the Villar family.
“We welcome the investigation because the people deserve clear answers,” Santos said.
“If public funds were used for private advantage, that must be addressed. If not, then the investigation will also help restore confidence. Either way, transparency is good for everyone,” he added.
The lawmaker also said he is ready to turn over site reports, correspondence, maps, engineering assessments, and other documents that may aid the task force.
“Our only objective is to ensure that government funds are used properly and that communities benefit from flood control projects as intended,” he said.
Santos underscored that the probe is crucial in addressing longstanding flooding problems in the area that continue to disrupt daily life, business operations, and public safety.
