PNP ON HEIGHTENED ALERT FOR TYPHOON UWAN RESPONSE

Philippine National Police (PNP) acting chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. has placed the entire police force on heightened alert beginning Saturday to ensure full readiness ahead of Typhoon Uwan’s impact.

“Our men and women in uniform are ready to respond anytime and anywhere. We are working closely with local government units and other frontline agencies to make sure that our communities are safe and that help reaches those who need it the most,” Nartatez said.

The PNP has mobilized 4,142 personnel across the country to support pre-disaster operations, while an additional 8,358 members of the Reactionary Standby Support Force are on standby for quick deployment in affected regions.

At least 187 vehicles and equipment have been prepositioned for rescue, relief, and evacuation efforts. Around 20,000 evacuation centers nationwide are under close police monitoring to maintain order and safety.

Police units in high-risk areas have been tasked to assist in preemptive evacuations and road-clearing operations.

In Central Luzon, police chief Brig. Gen. Rogelio Peñones inspected disaster response tools, rescue boats, generators, and communication systems to ensure all units are fully operational and ready for deployment.
