DOT WARNS TOURISM ESTABLISHMENTS AGAINST OVERPRICING AMID CALAMITIES

The Department of Tourism (DOT) has warned tourism establishments against overpricing and unfair treatment of travelers and workers in areas affected by recent disasters.

Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco urged all accredited businesses to uphold integrity and compassion amid crisis situations.

“The DOT reminds all tourism enterprises, particularly DOT-accredited ones, to uphold responsible, considerate, and transparent business practices during times of calamity or emergency,” Frasco said.

She emphasized that establishments should not exploit travelers “by unreasonably increasing rates for accommodation, restaurant services, or other tourism-related offerings.”

Frasco encouraged hotels and resorts to adopt flexible rebooking and cancellation policies for guests whose travel plans were disrupted, noting that “genuine hospitality is tested in moments of adversity.”

“It is our shared duty to ensure that travelers, evacuees, and responders find safety, comfort, and dignity in our establishments during times of crisis,” she added.

The DOT also reminded tourism enterprises to be transparent about any service limitations or damage, and to coordinate with authorities to ensure fair pricing and proper assistance for affected travelers and residents.

“Now, more than ever, we must show the world that the Filipino brand of service shines brightest in times of adversity,” Frasco said.

“Let us stand together in compassion, fairness, and integrity as we help our fellow Filipinos recover.”
