Two people were reported dead even before Typhoon Uwan made landfall in Aurora province on Sunday night, November 9.
According to the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), one victim drowned after being swept away by a flash flood in Viga, Catanduanes. In Catbalogan, Samar, a woman was killed when her house collapsed amid strong winds and heavy rain.
The OCD said over 1.1 million residents have been evacuated from high-risk areas ahead of the typhoon’s impact.
Typhoon Uwan made landfall in Dinalungan, Aurora at 9:10 p.m. as a “super typhoon.”
This marks the second consecutive powerful storm to hit the country. Just last week, Typhoon Tino battered Cebu, claiming around 220 lives.
Government agencies are now on full alert to ensure a swift and coordinated response to the widespread effects of the super typhoon.
