TYPHOON UWAN WEAKENS AS IT MOVES OVER WEST PHILIPPINE SEA

Typhoon Uwan continued to weaken on Monday as it moved northwest over the West Philippine Sea, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported.

As of 11 a.m., the typhoon’s center was located 135 kilometers west-northwest of Bacnotan, La Union, carrying maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h near the center and gusts of up to 160 km/h. It was moving northwestward at 20 km/h with a central pressure of 970 hPa.

PAGASA raised Signal No. 3 over Ilocos Sur, northern and central La Union, and the northwestern part of Pangasinan. Signal No. 2 remained up in several areas across Northern and Central Luzon, while Signal No. 1 covered Metro Manila, Southern Luzon, and parts of Western Visayas.

“Considering these developments, the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to take all necessary measures to protect life and property,” PAGASA said.

Residents in affected areas were urged to comply with evacuation orders and stay updated through official advisories.
