BONOAN DEPARTS PHILIPPINES FOR US AMID FLOOD PROJECT PROBE

Former DPWH Secretary Manuel “Manny” Bonoan has left the Philippines for the United States to accompany his wife for a medical procedure, the DOJ confirmed Tuesday.

He is linked to allegedly anomalous flood control projects but faces no travel restrictions, as no warrant of arrest or hold departure order exists.

Bureau of Immigration officials coordinated with the DOJ before his departure, confirming he was cleared to leave via Taiwan.

Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) Executive Director Brian Hosaka said the commission has already made recommendations and referrals to the Office of the Ombudsman regarding Bonoan’s possible liability.

“The ICI will continue to investigate and make referrals to the Ombudsman as the evidence warrants against all those who may be responsible, regardless of their whereabouts. The ICI does not have the power to issue hold departure orders, it can only recommend to the DOJ to place an individual in its immigration look out bulletin,” he explained.

Travel is reported to last until December 17, 2025.
