CHINA EXTENDS $2.4-M AID, EMERGENCY SUPPLIES TO TYPHOON-HIT PH

China has pledged $2.4 million in cash and emergency supplies to assist the Philippines following the successive onslaught of Typhoon Tino and Super Typhoon Uwan.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said on Tuesday, November 11, that the aid comes “in the spirit of humanity and friendship with the Philippine people.”

“In the spirit of humanity and friendship with the Philippine people, China has provided assistance in cash and emergency supplies to the Philippines, and some Chinese provinces are also extending a helping hand through channels between sister provinces,” Lin stated.

He added, “We wish those affected will recover from the disaster and rebuild their homes at an early date.”

The humanitarian gesture comes despite ongoing maritime disputes between Manila and Beijing in the South China Sea.
