Former Senator Gringo Honasan revealed that Chief Presidential Legal Counsel and former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile had begged to be brought home from the hospital, where he is being treated for pneumonia.
“He was practically begging to go back home,” Honasan said in a TV interview. “He told me, ‘I don’t want to pass away in a hospital.’”
Honasan added that he and other former colleagues recently had a reunion with Enrile, where they spent time sharing stories and laughter.
Enrile’s health condition drew public attention after Senator Jinggoy Estrada asked for prayers for the 101-year-old statesman’s recovery on Tuesday, November 11.
Enrile, along with Honasan and the late President Fidel V. Ramos, were key figures in the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution, which ended the dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
