House Assistant Minority Leader and Gabriela Partylist Representative Sarah Elago has urged the House leadership to prove its commitment to ending political dynasties by immediately passing the anti-political dynasty bill.
Her call came after Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III voiced support for the measure.
“If the Speaker and the House leadership are serious about ending political dynasties, the next step is clear: pass the pending bills that will finally give life to the constitutional ban on dynasties,” Elago said.
She cited House Bill 4784, which she filed, and House Bill 209 by the Makabayan bloc — both aiming to define and prohibit political dynasties under the 1987 Constitution.
“The anti-dynasty law is a long-overdue reform that can help pave the way for new, people-oriented leaders and parties that genuinely represent the interests of ordinary Filipinos,” Elago said, emphasizing that dynastic rule perpetuates inequality and weakens democracy.
