BIR FILES TAX CASES AGAINST 89 CONTRACTORS AND DPWH, COA OFFICIALS

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has filed cases with the Department of Justice (DOJ) against 89 contractors and officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and Commission on Audit (COA) for unpaid taxes, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. reported Thursday, November 13.

He noted that the total tax liabilities identified by the BIR amount to ₱8.86 billion.

“Umaabot sa ₱8.86 billion ang kanilang tax liabilities,” Marcos emphasized, adding that the cases stem from tax evasion and failure to file accurate information.

“These are taxes that they did not pay and were identified by the BIR upon investigation. They are now being sued to recover the government’s revenue,” the President said.

He also said that penalties are expected to apply on top of the unpaid taxes.

The identities of the contractors and officials involved were not disclosed to the public.
