VP SARA SLAMS CLAIMS OF ECONOMIC RECOVERY BY YEAR’S END

Vice President Sara Duterte minced no words as she criticized statements suggesting that the Philippine economy will recover by the fourth quarter of 2025.

Her remarks came after reports showed a continued economic slump in the third quarter, marked by the peso plunging to an all-time low of ₱59.170, a slowdown in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth, and the stock market dropping to pandemic-level figures.

“Nananaginip nang gising. Kung sino man nagsasabi na makakarekober ang ekonomiya [ng Pilipinas] by fourth quarter of this year, nananaginip ‘yan nang gising,” VP Sara said during the 90th Anniversary celebration of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) held at Makati Shangri-La, Manila on Friday, November 14.

“Wala ‘yan sa tamang pag-iisip talaga,” she added.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., meanwhile, previously stated that corruption is not the sole factor behind the economic decline, noting that climate change has also contributed to the downturn.
