Former House Speaker and Leyte 1st District Representative Ferdinand Martin Romualdez has finally responded to the allegations made by former Ako Bicol Party-list Representative Zaldy Co regarding supposed irregularities in flood control projects.
In a statement released on Saturday, November 15, Romualdez firmly asserted that his conscience is clean.
“My conscience remains clear!” he declared.
He stressed that no individual has directly implicated him in any misconduct tied to the alleged anomalies Co has been publicizing.
“Throughout this inquiry, no public official, contractor, or witness has pointed to any wrongdoing on my part,” Romualdez said.
Romualdez also criticized Co’s method of disclosure, noting that Co has yet to swear to any of his statements before a lawful authority.
He said he will leave the matter to the Independent Committee on Infrastructure (ICI), the Ombudsman, and the Department of Justice (DOJ) to determine the truth behind Co’s claims.
“I continue to trust the ICI, the DOJ, and the Ombudsman to evaluate all statements fairly and strictly on the basis of evidence,” he added.
Romualdez assured the public that he will continue to cooperate with authorities until the facts are fully uncovered.
Co earlier alleged on Friday, November 14, that both Romualdez and President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. were involved in budget insertions related to questionable flood control projects.
