AFP REAFFIRMS NON-PARTISAN ROLE AHEAD OF NATIONWIDE PROTESTS

As various groups prepare for nationwide demonstrations this month, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) reiterated its commitment to remain professional, disciplined, and strictly non-partisan.

Citing strong public trust based on recent surveys, the AFP said it remains steadfast in upholding the Constitution.

AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. underscored that the military will not participate in any action that violates democratic principles.

“The AFP remains a professional, disciplined, and non-partisan institution, unwavering in its loyalty to the Constitution, the democratic principles it is sworn to defend, and to the Filipino people it serves,” he said.

With protests scheduled from November 16–18 and on November 30, the AFP said it respects the public’s right to free expression and peaceful assembly.

Brawner noted that security forces are monitoring information that could affect public safety and are coordinating with law enforcement agencies to keep gatherings “peaceful and consistent with the law.”

The AFP also urged organizers and participants to stay vigilant against potential disruptors who may attempt to infiltrate the demonstrations.

Reassuring the public of the military’s stabilizing role, Brawner added, “You can rely on us to stand firm, to serve honorably, and to protect every Filipino.”
