President Bongbong Marcos on Wednesday inaugurated the newly refurbished PhilSports Complex in Pasig City, presenting a modernized national sports hub featuring upgraded dormitories, a redesigned dining hall, a relocated National Sports Museum, improved gyms, and fully overhauled training facilities.
Backed by the Office of the President and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, the relaunch aims to strengthen the country’s preparations for upcoming international competitions and provide athletes with facilities that meet global standards.

Marcos emphasized why sports remain central to national identity.
“For even just a few days, we were at the top of the world,” he said, referencing icons like Manny Pacquiao, Hidilyn Diaz, and Caloy Yulo.
He also called for stronger competitive sports programs in schools, stressing that discipline, resilience, and teamwork are “life skills” best learned through structured athletics.

He noted that government can no longer rely on the “informal support group” of parents, coaches, and trainers.
“If we truly consider this important, government has to play its part,” Marcos said, highlighting the need to provide athletes with proper rest, nutrition, medical care, and world-class preparation to succeed internationally.
