‘BAHA SA LUNETA 2.0’ SET ON NOV. 30 AMID GROWING PUBLIC OUTRAGE

Two months after the “Baha sa Luneta” protest at Luneta Park last September 21, another large-scale mobilization is set to take place on November 30, with organizers citing the continued absence of accountability over alleged corruption in government.

The Kilusang Bayan Kontra Kurakot (KBKK) announced the upcoming protest during a press conference on Wednesday, November 19.

According to the group, they commend the public for ‘continuously protesting since the flood control scandal erupted,’ adding that persistent public pressure has ‘forced the Marcos administration to act on the calls for truth and accountability.’

“Kung hindi sa sunod-sunod na pagkilos ng taumbayan — mula sa Baha sa Luneta, mga Black Friday protests, student walkout, noise barrages, pati chanting sa UAAP games at iba pang pagkilos — hindi kikilos ang Malacañang. Ngayon, napilitan itong magpakita ng ‘aksiyon’ sa gitna ng nag-uumapaw na galit ng publiko sa bilyon-bilyong pisong ninakaw sa kaban ng bayan,” KBKK said.

Former Bayan Muna Representative Teddy Casiño, chairperson of Bagong Alyansang Makabayan, said President Bongbong Marcos’ claim that those behind the flood control scandal would be jailed before Christmas will remain empty unless someone is actually punished or imprisoned.

Protests have been held across the country in response to what activists describe as widespread corruption involving government officials and employees.

This has prompted Congress to open investigations into alleged irregularities in infrastructure projects and to initiate cases against those believed to have received kickbacks.

David San Juan, convenor of the Taumbayan Ayaw sa Magnanakaw at Abusado Network Alliance (TAMA NA), said the program for “Baha sa Luneta 2.0” will begin at 9:00 a.m. and run until noon. Before the event, various sectoral groups will march toward Luneta Park from different parts of the city.

Meanwhile, ahead of the November 30 demonstrations, organizers of the Trillion Peso March have confirmed that the mass protest at the EDSA People Power Monument will also push through, with hundreds of thousands expected to attend.
