Former House Speaker and Leyte 1st District Representative Martin Romualdez has once again insisted that his conscience remains clean despite ongoing corruption allegations, including questionable budget insertions in the 2025 national budget and supposed kickbacks from anomalous flood control projects.
In a statement released Friday, November 21, Romualdez reiterated that he has been cooperating fully with the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI).
“I willingly submitted myself to the ICI’s fact-finding process, appeared voluntarily, and remained in the country. Throughout all these proceedings, no sworn or credible evidence has ever linked me to any irregularity and again my conscience remains clear,” Romualdez said.
He added that he is entrusting the next steps to the Office of the Ombudsman.
“It’s now the Ombudsman. I trust in the Ombudsman’s impartial and thorough review and evaluation,” he noted.
“I do so with confidence that a fair and complete assessment of the will reflect the truth.”
This is not the first time Romualdez has publicly asserted his innocence amid accusations—particularly those raised by former Ako Bicol Partylist Representative Zaldy Co.
In a previous statement on November 15, Romualdez also firmly maintained that his conscience remained clean, stressing that no one has directly implicated him in the alleged irregularities tied to the controversial flood control projects.
Despite the mounting scrutiny, Romualdez continues to deny any involvement, asserting that the allegations against him remain unsubstantiated.
