Batangas 1st District Representative Leandro Legarda Leviste has purchased Solidaridad Bookshop, a renowned literary institution in Manila considered a cultural landmark.
“We thank the Jose family for entrusting us with Solidaridad. We hope they can remain involved and help ensure that the Bookshop’s operations stay true to its history and the legacy of F. Sionil Jose,” said Leviste, son of Senator Loren Legarda and a friend of F. Sionil Jose.
Leviste’s acquisition aims to secure the continued operations of Solidaridad and preserve the legacy of F. Sionil Jose, a National Artist for Literature.
F. Sionil Jose established the Bookshop in 1965 on the property of his wife Teresita Jovellanos Jose’s family in Padre Faura. The couple passed away in 2022, and the Bookshop was managed by their child, Tonet.
