Vice President Sara Duterte declared she is fully prepared to assume the presidency should President Bongbong Marcos step down from office.
In an ambush interview in Davao, Duterte was asked about her readiness to take on the country’s top post.
“There is no question about my readiness. I presented myself to you when I was a candidate for vice president with the understanding that I am the first in line in succession,” she said.
She added that her decision to run for vice president came with the responsibility of stepping in as President if necessary.
The Vice President also underscored that the Constitution clearly places her next in the presidential line of succession.
“Pinresenta ko sa inyo, tumakbo ako bilang vice president. Alam ko na first in line ako sa succession. Wala nang tanong dun kung ano ang gagawin ko,” she said.
Her statement comes amid calls from several groups urging both Marcos and Duterte to resign.
