Liberal Party President and former Quezon 4th District Representative Erin Tañada said Vice President Sara Duterte is unfit to assume the presidency amid growing calls for President Bongbong Marcos to step down.
Tañada pointed to Duterte’s record as former Education Secretary and the unresolved controversy over her alleged misuse of confidential and intelligence funds, saying these continue to raise serious doubts about her integrity.
“(The) questions of accountability (have) not yet been answered with regard to the (corruption) charges against Sara Duterte… and her stint as secretary of the Department of Education,” he said, stressing that public outrage over corruption has made accountability unavoidable for top officials.
He warned that elevating another leader “tainted with corruption” would only deepen the public’s distrust in government at a time of political and fiscal crisis.
Duterte earlier declared she was “ready” to lead the country as pressure mounted on Marcos to resign over alleged links to anomalous flood control projects and questionable budget insertions in the proposed 2025 national budget.
