Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla on Wednesday reaffirmed the Marcos administration’s commitment to pursue full accountability in the alleged flood control anomaly, promising that those found guilty of corruption “will be behind bars by 2026.”
Addressing local officials at the Vice Mayors’ League of the Philippines (VMLP) 29th National Convention in Manila, Remulla stressed that the government is determined to uphold integrity amid persistent concerns over the misuse of public funds.
“Makakaasa kayo na ang gobyerno ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ay hindi umaatras sa hamon na ang mali, nagkamali at nagnakaw, lahat sila makukulong nitong 2026,” he said.
He noted that President Marcos Jr. remains firm in addressing irregularities tied to the alleged flood control mess, saying Filipinos deserve “honest service.”
Remulla also called on vice mayors nationwide to unite, emphasizing that good governance begins in local communities. He highlighted the crucial role of LGUs in restoring public trust through transparent and accountable leadership.
“Iisa lang ang pananaw natin: pagandahin ang ating bayan, ang ating lalawigan, ang ating bansa,” he said, adding that citizens expect leaders who are worthy of their mandate.
