ICC JUNKS DUTERTE INTERIM RELEASE BID; PALACE RESPECTS RULING

Malacañang issued a brief statement following the International Criminal Court’s dismissal of former President Rodrigo Duterte’s motion for interim release.

“The International Criminal Court has already made its decision, and the Palace respects it,” Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro told the media just minutes after the ICC released its ruling on Thursday, November 28.

The ICC unanimously denied Duterte’s temporary release from the ICC detention center, rejecting three separate appeals filed by his camp.

It can be recalled that the ICC Pre-Trial Chamber I had previously denied the former President’s request for interim release on alleged “humanitarian reasons.”

Duterte remains in ICC custody as he faces charges of crimes against humanity in relation to his bloody anti-drug campaign.
