President Bongbong Marcos marked Bonifacio Day on Sunday with a call for courage, dignity, and national unity as massive anti-corruption protests unfolded across Metro Manila during the “Trillion Peso March.”

In a statement, Marcos invoked the legacy of revolutionary hero Andres Bonifacio.
“Ngayon ay ating ipinagdiriwang ang ika-162 Anibersaryo ng Pagsilang ni Gat Andres Bonifacio… nagpaalab sa ating nagkakaisang damdamin, at nagmulat sa ating mga mata upang labanan ang pang-aapi sa mga Pilipino,” he said, highlighting how Bonifacio’s ideals inspire Filipinos to fight for freedom and justice.
The President praised Bonifacio’s rise from humble beginnings, noting that heroism stems from heart, courage, and love for country. He encouraged citizens to emulate these qualities in pursuit of unity, transparency, and bravery.
Meanwhile, tens of thousands of demonstrators—including youth groups, labor unions, religious organizations, business leaders, and civil society networks—gathered at Luneta Park and the People Power Monument in EDSA, calling for stronger action against misuse of public funds. The Palace had deployed around 15,000 police officers in preparation for the protests.
Marcos urged Filipinos to channel Bonifacio’s spirit, emphasizing that his lessons must continue to guide the nation forward.
