The Department of Education (DepEd) aims to hire 32,916 Teacher I positions in 2026, the largest single-year increase, to address teacher shortages in public schools.
In addition, DepEd plans to fill 6,000 School Principal I posts to bridge leadership gaps and hire 10,000 School Counselor Associate I personnel to support student well-being, including anti-bullying efforts.
The 2026 hiring is on top of 20,000 new teaching positions for FY 2025 and 33,052 unfilled positions from previous years. DepEd also plans to recruit 11,268 Administrative Officer IIs and 5,000 Project Development Officer I personnel.
The department emphasized that its hiring plan “reflects both the urgency of addressing classroom congestion and the trust placed in the department’s capacity to implement systemic reforms.”
