Senate President Tito Sotto said he was not surprised by former DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson’s resignation from the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), citing stress and limited authority in the body’s operations.
“Hanggang saan lang sila puwede? Hanggang puwede lang silang mag-imbita eh… doon lang sila nakakapag-imbita, unlike the Ombudsman or NBI or Department of Justice. Talagang mahirap ‘yung trabaho nila,” Sotto said in a chance interview.
He added, “Hindi ako nagtataka, sa stress nu’n… tapos konti ang power nila? Hindi nakakapagtaka ‘yun. I can’t blame them.”
Sotto also called for the swift passage of the Independent People’s Commission, saying it would strengthen investigations into anomalous flood control projects and provide the ICI with more effective powers.
