VP SARA HONORS OFWS, FAMILIES FOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO PHILIPPINE ECONOMY

In celebration of Overseas Filipinos Month, Vice President Sara Duterte recognized the sacrifices and contributions of Filipino workers abroad and their families, highlighting their role in strengthening the Philippine economy.

“You are the heartbeat of the global Filipino pride, showcasing Filipino talent and values worldwide,” Duterte said on Saturday.

She acknowledged the challenges OFWs face—being away from family, adapting to new cultures, and dealing with homesickness—yet praised their resilience and dignity.

VP Sara urged the government and communities to bolster support systems for OFWs, including improved consular services, mental health resources, and reintegration programs.

The vice president also honored the families left behind, calling them a “foundation of love and strength.”

“Your own sacrifices and steadiness are the source of inspiration and courage for every overseas Filipino worker,” she said, encouraging efforts to ensure every OFW returns home with honor and fulfills their dreams.

Overseas Filipinos Month, created under Proclamation 276 in 1988 by former President Cory Aquino, coincides with the UN’s International Migrants Day on December 18, recognizing the contributions of Filipinos abroad to national development.
