Ilocos Norte 1st District Representative Sandro Marcos authorized the release of his testimony before the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) to demonstrate that he is not involved in the flood control controversy.
Marcos appeared before the ICI on Thursday and initially requested an executive session “to protect the integrity of the investigation” rather than his own interests.
“I have given the ICI full authority to release if they deem fit to release the video of my testimony — if they believe there’s no information there that might jeopardize their investigation,” Marcos said.
His lawyer, Michelle Lazaro, explained that the executive session was requested because critical information could arise that might compromise the ongoing investigation.
The House Majority Leader, and son of President Bongbong Marcos, maintained his innocence after being linked by former Ako Bicol Partylist Representative Zaldy Co to the controversial flood control projects.
Ombudsman Boying Remulla indicated it is “very possible” the Ombudsman may take over the investigation from the ICI, which could cease operations within one to two months.
He added that the agency is hiring additional lawyers but acknowledged the ICI’s assistance in collating evidence. Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano expressed appreciation for the ICI’s work.
