Dark comedy One Battle After Another dominated the Golden Globe nominations on Monday with nine nods, positioning the Leonardo DiCaprio–led thriller as an early contender on the path to the Academy Awards.
Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, the Warner Bros film follows a washed-up revolutionary forced back into action when his daughter is threatened, competing in the best movie musical or comedy category alongside Marty Supreme and Bugonia.
Norwegian family drama Sentimental Value earned eight nominations, closely followed by supernatural horror film Sinners with seven. Both join Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein and the Shakespeare-inspired Hamnet in the race for best movie drama.
“‘Frankenstein’ is a film I have been wanting to make for as long as I can remember, and to have it embraced in this way means so much to me,” del Toro said.
DiCaprio, along with co-stars Benicio Del Toro, Sean Penn, Chase Infiniti and Teyana Taylor, secured acting nominations, with Taylor saying she was left “speechless and teary-eyed.”
Other nominees include George Clooney, Adam Sandler for Jay Kelly, Dwayne Johnson for The Smashing Machine, and Jessie Buckley for Hamnet.
Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo also picked up nominations for Wicked: For Good, though the second installment of Universal’s Wizard of Oz prequel missed the musical or comedy category.
The Golden Globes, among the earliest awards leading into Oscar season, will be broadcast on January 11, 2026.
