HOUSE TO BEGIN DELIBERATIONS ON ANTI-POLITICAL DYNASTY BILL IN JANUARY

The House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reform will start deliberations on the proposed anti-political dynasty bill in January 2026, its chairperson, Lanao del Sur 1st District Representative Zia Alonto Adiong, said.

So far, 11 measures targeting political dynasties have been referred to the panel. Adiong noted that House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III and House Majority Leader Sandro Marcos are expected to file their respective bills as well. The initial deliberation is scheduled for January 13, 2026.

Aside from legislative hearings, Adiong said he would hold public consultations “to give back the right of the people to have a sense of ownership over the process.” He expressed confidence the House will pass the measure.

“Feeling ko, papasa talaga ‘yan sa House of Representatives,” he said.

Dy previously listed the anti-dynasty bill among priority measures alongside the proposed Independent Commission Against Infrastructure Corruption (ICAIC).

Manila 1st District Representative Ernix Dionisio added that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos’ support “sends a very strong signal that Malacañang– the President– is really pushing for this.”

“Malaki ang magiging influence niyan sa mga pepresentatives that there is a big support from the President,” Dionisio said. He stressed the need for a thorough discussion on the definition of political dynasties to balance reform with voters’ freedom of choice.
